Andrew Wyeth - Painting

The High Museum in Atlanta is holding a uniquely curated show of the work of Andrew Wyeth. In most showings of his work, Andrew had been shown in conjunction with his father and his son's work showing the 3 generation of Wyeth artists. The other popular, more Jerry Springer method of displaying his work, was based on the rumors of Andrew's obsession/romances with his models, including one such scandal with his model Holga (who is still his painting assistant today) that landed him on the cover of Time Magazine in the early 80's.

The High Museum's show curated by Anne Classen Knutson takes a decidedly different angle by taking all his work and dividing them into three thematic concerns: nature, thresholds, or vessels (anything that contains objects). Knuston's interpretation of his work holds that these three themes are repeatedly visited throughout his career and held constant while his techniques, and imagery vary.
