Serenbe Community - City Planning

Serenbe Community is a planned sustainable community being built about an hour's drive outside of Atlanta near the city of Palmetto. The land planning of Serenbe is developed not only according to sustainability principles, protecting the wetlands and preserving over 70 percent of the land as green space, but also with respect for the cultural history of the land, which is largely agricultural. It is an interesting idea that I hope works; the gorgeous rural landscapes surrounding Atlanta are quickly disappearing and it would nice to find a way to develop land to both house the population increase, and not ruin the landscape like so many developments do. This is a hard topic, because growing up, I was a beneficiary of the cheap housing of the early 90's Atlanta housing boom that has ravenously consumed land (and continues to do so), it improved the quality of my life and gave me a place to live. Ultimately things like the Serenbe Community need to work and other solutions need to be widely used to augment this community so it can succede on a regional level.
