Inverse Manufacturing - Sustainable Design

I hate buzz words, and I fear that Inverse Manufacturing may become one of them despite the fact that the concept seems really strong. Inverse Manufacturing is a design process where one purposefully designs with the intent of using reclaimed parts from old machines. Canon, HP, and Fuji seem to be taking the lead in this are with copiers and printers. An article on Treehugger states that in 2003, Fuji Xerox had a surplus of US$570 000, which means "“the income from reusing components exceeds expenditures for the purpose of product recycling."” This makes very clear that a national parts reclamation and re-use system can be profitable.
