Yves Klein - Conceptual Art

(warning nudity) I will admit that I scoff at a lot of conceptual art, but I try my hardest to look at it as my insufficiency to understand what I am experiencing rather than dismiss it as ridiculous (which would be pretty easy to do a lot of the time). Yvres Klein was a conceptual performance artist in the Paris in the 1960's that I've always felt everyone should know about in order to understand the less understandable part of art that has abounded in the past 40 years. His piece that absolutely captivates me is called The Monotone Symphony. The description of it is so intriguing, click here to read about it.I think I have a pretty good handle on conceptual art after reading about Klein's work. He does an excellent job of creating experiential art that is less visual and more environmental by virtue of how he filled a space and the audiences were brought into the setting. Klein's Le Vide Performance is another piece that illustrates these talents very well. Frequently people remained inside the gallery for hours without saying a word, and some would tremble or begin to cry
