Design Management Institute
My largest criticism of a lot design work is that, at times, it will lend itself to art more than design because it does not connect itself to business or purpose well enough. It may be beautiful, but not have a good objective or purpose or be impossible to manufacture in large quantities. Don't get me wrong, this may be the intent of some objects which is fine, but I feel that some designers like Karim Rashid are creeping away from design and more toward art due to the boutique nature of much of their product designs.
Problems like this are why I love the Design Management Institute. They are an organization based around connecting business and design without over compromising either. Due to the fact that I am a poor student, I have never had the opportunity to attend one of their seminars, but I have heard good things from those who have.
