Cremaster Series
I've been sooooo curious lately to see something from the Cremaster Series that I keep hearing about and recently I finally got to see part of it. They've released part (about 30 minutes) of the Cremaster 5 onto DVD(if you live in ATL, go to Videodrome, they have it there). It's a really interesting piece of work. Every frame of the film is highly symbolic (symbolic of what, I will not attempt to decipher). If you are into surrealist film, I'd highly suggest you checking it out. It seems to be one of the only films of it's type that does not depend on overbearing darkness to portray its message. As for Matthew Barney being the greatest artist of my generation as the New York Times proclaims, the Mike Nelson jury is still out. He has definitely created something unique, beautiful, and of high artistic value, but I feel that only time and our remembrance of his work over time, can truly give him the title of "Greatest artist."
